“Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name.” (John 12:27-28a, NASB)
With the crucifixion bearing down upon Him, Jesus makes this remarkable statement. Essentially, He is saying, “This is what I came here for. This is My purpose. Why should I run from it? No, I embrace it.”
He knew the horrors of the coming crucifixion, but He also knew the glory of the coming resurrection. And He embraced the whole thing. Jesus's attitude in the face of His darkest hour sets an example for us.
It's okay to have a troubled soul. When God allows trying times in your life, you don't have to act excited about it. It's okay for it to trouble you. That is no sin.
Don't run from the pain; embrace it. Maybe that doesn't sound like very good advice, but think about it. Everyone experiences pain in this life. There is no escaping it. But the pain that God allows in the lives of His people is full of purpose, bringing sanctification to them and testimony to those around them. Look at even the painful moments as moments of purpose.
Take every opportunity to glorify God. Is there anyone in all existence who had more of a right to complain than the perfect Son of God as He was staring down the barrel of crucifixion? Instead of complaining about it, He sought the glory of the Father in it. Every opportunity is an opportunity to glorify God. This is especially true of those times when we would rather complain. What does it say about His glory and worth when His people praise Him when everyone else would have been complaining?
You may be walking through the world with a troubled soul, but embrace the times you are in. God has you here for a reason. It is an opportunity to glorify His name.
