“Hallowed be Your name.” (Matthew 6:9b, NASB)
“Hallowed" simply means “made holy” or “consecrated.” You are obviously not able to make God holy. He already is. But you can recognize the holiness of His name. That is what this portion of the Lord's prayer is all about. You are asking for God's name to be seen as holy.
In your own heart. Your prayer life should include petitions for God to show you His holiness and help you honor Him in your heart for the holy God that He is.
In the way you live. You need God's help. So, a regular part of your prayers should be asking Him to help you regard His name as holy in the way that you live.
In the whole world. Ultimately, as Christians, we want the whole world to recognize the holiness of our God. And they will (Romans 14:11, Isaiah 45:23, Philippians 2:10-11). Our prayers ought to be aiming in that direction. We pray that God will cause everyone to recognize and live in light of His holiness.
God's name. Your name is not who you are. One does not need a name to have personhood. Your name is how you're known. No one can add to or take from God's holiness. Hallowing His name means knowing His holiness and making it known.
Try putting a special emphasis on God's holiness in your prayers today. Ask Him to increase your awareness of it. Ask Him to help you testify to it in the way you live. And ask Him to cause the whole world to see it.
