“Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord…” (Philippians 3:1a, NASB)
Paul wrote these words from prison. Though he himself is in chains, he has the nerve to tell the Philippians to rejoice. It doesn't quite make sense according to worldly logic, does it? But it comes into focus with these three words: in the Lord. From these words we can draw two applications for today.
Your joy will always be derived from a source. It is only up to you to decide what well to pull from. There are myriad sources available to you in this world. However, they are all wells that will run dry. There is only one sustainable well that never runs dry. That is Christ. If He is the source of your joy, it doesn't matter what changes around you. He never changes so you are always able to rejoice.
Your joy will depend on your location. Notice the position of the rejoicing believer. In the Lord. Joy is not only supplied by drawing from Christ, but also exhibited from our position in Him. So, you can rejoice because Christ is your great supply. But you can also rejoice because you are one with Him. Positionaly, your sinner’s death became His and His righteous life became yours. There is nothing in this life that can pry you out from under His atoning covering. This sounds like good reason to rejoice!
I don’t know what your day holds for you, but I do know that the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever. You can find your joy in Him.
