“The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And the Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished.” (Nahum 1:3a, NASB)
In all that God does, He does it to the fullest. He is patient with His elect so that all of them will be saved. He is also patient with the wicked so that He may judge them in full measure.
It is fairly common for the righteous to wonder why God allows the wicked to prosper (Psalm 73). But we must remember that God allows them to prosper only for a time.
God is slow in His anger toward sin, but He is not weak. He is “strong in power.” And He is not indifferent. He will “by no means leave the guilty unpunished.” The slowness of God's anger guarantees that the full measure of His wrath will fall upon all wickedness (Genesis 15:13-16) and that the full measure of the saints will be redeemed from it (2 Peter 3:9).
Do you find yourself wondering why the righteous suffer while wicked people seem to prosper? It may even be that you are personally suffering as a result of someone else's wickedness.
Remember that God is slow to anger, but when He pours out judgment it will be a total and complete demonstration of His power. Justice is coming for every evil act. Also remember that the patience God is showing to evil men is the same patience that brought about your own salvation. Rejoice in the patience of God!
