Governor Ron DeSantis.
Did you notice that? Unless you are totally uninterested in politics, that name caused an instant reaction in you. You either love him or you hate him. As wierd as it sounds, that is what makes him such a great leader. It means he is not a political jellyfish. Agree with him or not, he is firm in what he stands for. I think we all have to admit he has proven himself on that merit.
As an American and Floridian, I would be thrilled for DeSantis to throw his name in the ring in 2024. I am proud to say I have the best governor in the nation, and having Grady Judd as my sheriff is just icing on the cake. But for that reason, simply as a Floridian, the thought of a DeSantis bid makes me nervous.
If he’s in the White House it means he is no longer in Tallahassee.
Despite my feelings on it, I am convinced we should and will see a DeSantis presidential campaign come 2024. Here are my reasons.
He provides the antithesis to the current administration
By the end of President Biden’s first term, the American people will be desperate for a change. In fact, at almost two years in, we already are. Come voting time, we will be searching for the most “not Biden" candidate we can find.
Enter DeSantis.
Florida’s governor has not just disagreed with the president on some things. He has set himself up as his antithesis. He has made himself the “anti-Biden," if you will.
One example of this would be DeSantis' handling of the shipping crisis. Where the Biden administration made America look like a joke, DeSantis made Florida the example of decisive action.
Another example is the handling of coronavirus. Biden’s administration has developed a reputation of using tyrannical measures. DeSantis, on the other hand, has become the poster boy for liberty and faithful representation of the people.
Throw these two in the ring and let America decide. My prediction? DeSantis with the K.O.
He has the boldness of Trump without the scandal
If you can take away the scandal, the crudeness, and the narcissistic behavior, Trump was an excellent candidate. His policies were nearly all good. For once, we had a president who could not be controlled by the elites. The nation began to flourish under his presidency. But he ruined himself with his lack of self-control.
Once again, enter DeSantis. Like Trump, he is not afraid to stand against the establishment. He doesn’t seem to be swayed by the elites.
Unlike Trump, he is not plagued with scandal. That is, until the liberals make one up and go into defamation of character mode. They love that strategy. Also, unlike Trump, DeSantis has some political savviness. This makes him more dangerous than Trump because he knows how to play their game.
Just imagine it. A leader with Trump’s backbone and strong direction, but with nicer tweets.
He already has a locked in voter base
When people are flocking from all over the country to come live in your state, you are doing something right. Seriously, you should see the traffic down here. It is legendary!
I understand Florida has always attracted residents because of the weather and the beaches, but that’s not what’s happening here. Many have come from California. Obviously, they are not coming for the beaches. They are coming for the freedom.
As I said earlier, you either love DeSantis or you hate him. This mass migration of people to Florida shows that those who love DeSantis really love DeSantis. If he runs for president he will have a pretty good voter base already locked in.
His name on the ballot all but guarantees Florida will swing red
They call Florida a swing state for a reason. Sometimes it goes red. Sometimes it goes blue. And whether it goes red or blue, it always seems to be by a nail biting percentage. Not only that, but statistics show that Florida voted for the winning president 74.2% of the time. As you can see, it is a very important state on election day.
If DeSantis runs for president I would be shocked if he doesn’t carry Florida. People love him here. I would even suggest there will be many Florida moderates who will wholeheartedly vote Republican.
With that in mind, DeSantis would start the race with a huge advantage. If you look at it in a purely statistical manner, it will allow him to presume upon a 74.2% chance of winning right at the start.
Conclusion
For these reasons, and more, I think DeSantis should run for president in 2024. But if he does, we will sure miss him down here in the Sunshine State.
